BBC Scotland Mobile Shelving Installation
Client BBC Scotland Location Glasgow, Scotland
BBC Scotland is moving from their original Glasgow base to a new purpose built facility at the edge of the River Clyde. As part of their storage requirements a Secure Tape Store was required for storage of ‘rushes’ digital tapes. As part of the BBC Pact contract Dexion Comino successfully tendered for this project. ESE (Scotland) on behalf of Dexion Comino, completed the installation of the Compactus Archive mobile shelving. As this part of the BBC storage facility would not be as much as a focal point within the building the Dexion Comino along with the client specified the finishes around functionality rather than aesthetics. This store is situated on the 1st floor of the building. It is installed on a computer access floor. The project included the installation of floor jacks below the rails to transfer the load of the system to the concrete slab below.
ESE (Scotland) has also recently completed the installtion of Dexion mobile shelving for the storage of the digital tapes containing our favourite television programmes for the new digital broadcasting centre for BBC Scotland in Glasgow. The new facility has been positioned in the ‘Digital Quarter’ at Pacific Quay on the banks of the River Clyde. The Information & Archives Vault is situated on the 2nd floor in the heart of the building Although budget was a consideration the client also wanted a solution that was aesthetically pleasing. The safety of the vault users was also paramount. Dexion Comino offered a Compactus Archive solution. The provision of safety aisle locks and torque limiters (slipping clutch) throughout the solution offers excellent user safety. For aesthetic purposes the client requested that the system guide rails be installed into the existing computer floor as well as picking glass end panels from the selection of finishes offered. The system offers BBC Scotland over 8,000 linear metres of storage in 8 blocks.
